Samsung Galaxy S23 Vs Samsung Galaxy S22

Well everyone, it's time for us to go and take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S23 and compare it against the Samsung Galaxy S22, and see which particular phone is a better one for you. Now, I will definitely tell you, when it comes to both, there are pros and cons between both of these types of, you know, phones. I think they're very good. I think they have a ton of capability for the most part. If you are going to go through and pick up a device, I don't think you can go too wrong with either one of these, but there is a better option here, which we'll talk about throughout this whole entire video.

But if you want to pick up either one of these phones, links will be down in the description. You can get them from there, and you can help support the channel at the exact same time. Now, starting off with the outside of both these particular phones, the Samsung Galaxy S22 originally came out back in 2022. On the front of this phone, it's giving you a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED display. It's a 120Hz panel, 1080P, and overall, it's a good-looking device. You know, I still think, for the most part, if you're going to pick up a console, if you're going to pick up a phone, it's a very beautiful panel. Hole punch display, there's not really too much to hate on here, but keep in mind, 1,300 nits of brightness, that is on the lower side compared to a lot of phones that we're getting nowadays. So, just kind of keep that in mind. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but that is just one thing to kind of keep in mind here.

On the Samsung Galaxy S23, on the other side, we're getting the same 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, so 120Hz, 1080P. So, those are just some things to keep in mind there. The fact that we are getting basically the same size panel, same resolution, same, you know, 120Hz, there's a slight difference here. We're going from 1,300 nits of brightness on the Galaxy S22, whereas on the Galaxy S23, we're getting 1,750 nits. So, this right there is another very, very big thing. So, the fact that we have that type of capability in and of itself is a very cool thing, and I do like having that type of capability because this, in and of itself, gives you a much brighter panel, which is more in line with today’s standards. It's not the biggest jump in the world, but it is a noticeable jump, and you are going to notice it on a day-to-day basis if you're going outside and using these types of phones. So, that way, there is another very big thing to keep in mind here.

You're getting USB Type-C ports on the bottom of both these phones, which is really nice to have. On the back sides, you're getting frosted glass backs, which again is very nice. I love being able to have frosted glass backs, and, you know, you're getting the triple camera setup on the backside. Getting frosted, you know, glass backs, like I mentioned, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging as well, IP certification. There's a lot of good stuff here between both these phones, and they're really good devices. The only things that these phones are missing out on that a lot of phones have nowadays isn't really much. Like, I can't really think of anything that this phone is missing out on that something like a Galaxy S24 has, at least from the exterior. Maybe the brightness being over 2,000 nits of brightness, a lot of phones nowadays are basically giving you that, and it would be very nice to be able to have a phone that is giving you 2,000 nits of brightness or above. But in this case, it's totally okay from this particular perspective.

From the price tag side, this is also another very interesting thing here because on the Samsung Galaxy S22, this phone can be available for a lot of people around $200ish. So that is a pretty big deal to keep in mind here because you can buy a phone like the Galaxy S22 and be able to have a phone that's going to be pretty good for like $250, even less than $250. On the Samsung Galaxy S23, this phone is still being sold for like around $340. So that can also be kind of a downside, depending on, you know, which way you're looking at it. So, that in and of itself can be kind of a big thing to keep in mind, but I would probably tell you, from a price tag standpoint, I'm still very, very good with something like these types of phones. And I would even say, from a price standpoint, there's not really too many devices that are this price, you know, in the brand new market. So, if you're comparing this type of phone to a brand new S24, clearly the S24 is going to be, you know, a much bigger price, but it's also a new phone. So, that right there is another big thing to keep in mind.

But between both, from the exterior and from the price tag side, that kind of covers it up here for the most part. Now, some other big things to keep in mind here too is within the camera side. So, from the camera front, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is giving you a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, whereas the Galaxy S23 is giving you a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens.

And then a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. So, the thing I could definitely tell you between these two sensors is that, one, there is a lot of overlap—basically the same amount of, you know, megapixels that you're getting between both. So, that right there is just one thing to kind of keep in mind here, that if you're going to go through and pick up either one of these phones, I do think it's a very, very cool thing to basically have this type of, you know, lens, which is really nice.

You're getting 4K at 60fps on the front and the back of both of them, which again is really nice to have, but you're also getting 8K capability on the backside of both as well, which again is a very nice thing to have too. So, that right there, I think, is a very big thing if you're going to go and pick up a phone. I think this, in and of itself, is a very nice thing to have. So, that, in and of itself, is a very, very big thing to kind of keep in mind here.

But I would probably tell you, when it comes down to both, I don't know man, like both these phones are very interesting when it comes down to it, and I don't know if there's one that's significantly better. I would imagine that the Galaxy S23 is the better camera because you are getting better features. You are getting, you know, the, you know, higher—it's the same megapixel count for the most part on the backside. The megapixel count is slightly bigger on the Galaxy S23's front camera, but I don't even think it's that big of a deal, and you're kind of getting the same type of layout for the most part.

So, I would tell you from that side, lots of overlap, and I don't know if there's a phone I'd recommend more, but the S23 is probably the camera that has the better one here for the most part. From the software side, this is a little bit complicated because what had happened was, on the Galaxy S22, this type of phone started on Android 12. It's upgradeable to Android 14. It's going to get probably another version or two of Android, and it's probably going to be done. On the Galaxy S23, this phone is getting up to four major Android upgrades, which is really nice, and right now it's on One UI 6, so on Android 14. So, it's probably going to last until like what, Android, you know, 17 or something like that.

Here's the thing, the Samsung Galaxy S24, which came out right after this, is getting like seven versions of Android. So, when you're comparing these types of phones, it is a pretty big difference when you're comparing that type of perspective because on something like the Samsung Galaxy S24, you're going to be getting a device that's going to be lasting a much longer period of time on the S24 than both of these phones combined, which is kind of crazy. So, although I wouldn't, you know—we're not looking at the S24 here, it's still very important to kind of compare those phones against those ones as well, compared to the newer ones.

So, I would probably tell you, when it comes down to the camera from the software perspective, you know, clearly the S23 is going to be the one that's better. But it is pretty crazy because even with that being said, the S23 is still, you know, not as good as the S24, which is pretty crazy. And the S24, from a software side, is probably going to be doing even better than the S23 and the S22 combined, which is pretty insane.

And from the performance side, this is a little bit different as well because you're getting slight differences when it comes down to the performance side. So, you're getting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset inside of the Samsung Galaxy S22, whereas on the Samsung Galaxy S23, you're getting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset inside. 8 GB of RAM, 8 GB of RAM inside of both these devices, which is super nice to have. So, I love being able to go ahead and buy one of these phones and getting, you know, a good amount of RAM. And I would tell you, from the performance side, very good performing phones, right? These are very good performing devices. You're not really going to feel like you're, you know, having too many issues when it comes down to the performance, and I do think that, in and of itself, is a very nice thing to have.

I love being able to go through and pick up a phone that's very, very good, and from the performance side, it's actually doing a really good job. That's something that I like a lot. So, I will say, that in and of itself is a very big thing to keep in mind there. Beyond that though, I don't know if there's necessarily a phone that is like the best performing one of all time. I know with the Samsung Galaxy S22, there were lots of issues when it came down to the performance and the thermal throttling, but I do think with a phone like the Samsung Galaxy S23, a lot of those issues got fixed, and I know it was a way better improvement on the S23 than Galaxy S22.

So overall, what I would definitely tell you is, between both, I love the Samsung Galaxy S23, and I like the Galaxy S22 a lot. But if I'm going to go and recommend a phone to somebody, I would probably recommend the Samsung Galaxy S23. I feel like that is a substantially better phone for the everyday person, and that is the phone that I'd probably recommend every single person to buy over the Galaxy S22. The S22's main advantage is the fact that it is cheaper, but beyond that, I think the Galaxy S23 might be the better one that I recommend the average person to go ahead and basically, you know, bite and buy at this point.
